Vintage Wedding Vacation in Historical Hobart – Felicetta & Guy

April 5th, 2013

This mood board was created with Felicetta and Guy’s ‘Garden Party’ theme in mind. Their wedding venue, Cascade Brewery, in historical Hobart further directed the concepts pitched.

Felicetta’s Italian heritage and the couple’s love of travel (think vintage travel posters), inspired their palette of citrus summery tones, vintage illustration and Retro typefaces. In terms of styling, garden games such as croquet, bocce and even a flower adorned swing are envisaged, set amongst oversized brightly coloured balloons strewn across the grass. To refresh guests after their garden frolic, an assortment of Italian citrus flavoured waters could be served.

Playful Save The Date ideas have been considered such as vintage seed packets containing seeds of flowers included at the wedding, as well as a ‘Vintage Travel’ style postcard of the Brewery’s commanding presence amongst rugged surrounding hills.

Groom & Groom Say I Do in Cotswolds Splendour

June 5th, 2012

This mood board was created with Jerrod and Paul’s spectacular wedding venue in mind, Barnsley House, a boutique hotel in the Cotswolds, England.

With nuptials taking place at the impressive property, with an array of fun activities planned over the course of the weekend, invitation concepts put forward aim to excite guests by depicting the amazing time away they can expect to have. The couple’s eye for style and attention to detail is reflected by using luxurious print processes, thick sumptuous paper stocks, calligraphy and illustration (a hand drawn map of the village perhaps).

Elements of the Save The Date and Invitation can be carried through the styling of the wedding itself, with playful Illustrated Dessert and Cheese Board Menus, and calligraphy for Placecards, Favour Tags etc. A little English pride could thoughtfully be dotted throughout, with English Toffee Favours and a Burberry Tux wearing groom and groom.

The Art of the Cocktail Hour ‘Australian Summer Chic’… A Bittersweet Change of Season

February 29th, 2012

Today is bittersweet, both a special day that comes round only once every four years, as well as the day to say goodbye to a Summer that never occurred. With record breaking rainfall we can only hope the warmer weather is delayed and that Autumn may provide the summery days we have been waiting for.

To celebrate this marked change of season, I would like to share another of the Cocktail Hour inspiration posts we created for Cointreau’s blog, The Art of the Cocktail Hour. If you are lucky enough to live near the beach like Zed, perhaps our recent post, Cocktail hour inspiration: Australian summer chic (see above), provides you with hosting ideas for your casually cool beach/backyard shindig.

Alternatively, with my trip to the UK only a week away, our post, Cocktail hour inspiration: English garden party, offers more refined party styling ideas, making use of sprawling sun kissed lawns and milder temperatures. Hopefully there will be many more weekends over March and April to don a pretty lace dress and head outside for a Great Gatsbyesque party in the sun.

Autumn French Country – Amelia & Tim

August 29th, 2011

This mood board was created with Amelia and Tim’s wonderfully whimsical French Country reception venue in mind.

The silvery greys, worn whites and tactile textiles, that fill Hopewood Country House’s light filled rooms, became the starting point for concepts put forward. With the wedding weekend set at the Autumn’s end, the warm colours found in seasonal blooms and fruit add the extra unexpected ‘pop’ that guarantees to excite. These rich and inviting ingredients inspire styling for the wedding whether it be Pomegranate Place Cards, Fig Covered Cake or Berry Strewn Flower Arrangements.

Amelia’s wish for tying tradition and playfulness is evident both in the mood board (the bride wore red shoes) as well as in the invitation concepts themselves. Each solution uses sumptuous paper stocks and luxurious print processes.

The Art of the Cocktail Hour ‘Mad Men NY’

August 8th, 2011

With my annual leave just days away, you can imagine the guilt felt when Billie and I left the studio early last Thursday to attend the launch of Cointreau’s Art of the Cocktail Hour blog at iconic Bondi Icebergs Bar. It was the chance to meet our fellow contributors, each hand-selected to lend insight into what makes for a stellar cocktail party, with a little Cointreau thrown in of course.

Karen Lavecky (producer of divinely delicious Lotus & Ming delicacies), Gaynor Alder (words behind  The Modern Woman’s Survival Guide) and the solo boy Matthew Barnett Cointreau’s Spirit-ualist Advisor) made up the impressive group of contributors. A few of the savvy ladies behind Cointreau and the PR team that support it, rounded off the group and there wasn’t a laspe in laughter as Cointreau infused Iceberg Sunset’s were consumed.

In short, we left on a high! It was beyond inspiring to converse with like minded entrepreneurs, each having made their hobby their craft and loving every minute of it. It was also refreshing to see a luxury brand like Cointreau thinking outside the box and celebrating the age old art of the cocktail hour, and of course allowing us to be part of such a fun, creative project. Zed & Bee have the priveledge of presenting further cool cocktail themed mood boards, as well as an article in the following weeks.

‘All You Need Is Love’, Rock & Roll – Marissa & Andrew

July 15th, 2011

This mood board was created with Marissa and Andrew’s shared love of Brit Rock and a bright, playful palette in mind.

A passion for bands, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oasis and U2, bound Marissa and Andrew from the beginning and has influenced their love story throughout, even leading to a proposal in Liverpool, England (The Beatles home).

The concepts born from this couple’s love of Brit Rock, aim to tell a little of their love story through the music that inspired it. Invitation concepts include; a custom Music Album Cover, Calligraphic Turntable Poster and a Typographic Mural featuring The Beatles lyrics ‘All You Need Is Love’.
Each concept is designed to include an RSVP Postcard as well as to potentially include a CD playlist of music that conjures memories for the couple.

70s Album Inspired CD – Nell & Jo

May 19th, 2011

This mood board was created with Nell and Jo’s playful design aesthetic in mind.

Inspiration was drawn from the couple loving to laugh, travel, explore and experience all that life has to offer. Whether through music, photography or a custom emblem, each concept reflects their enthusiastic view of the world. Using peaceful sage green to springboard a kaleidoscope of happy, humourous hues, the selected palette is young at heart and a representation of the diversity of the world that Nell and Jo are busy exploring.

Quirky touches are important in both reflecting the couples nature as well as to entertain guests; Personalised Badge Escort Cards, Miniature Hobby Button Holes and Balloon Save The Dates. Thoughtful Bomboniere for the bridal party could be Travel Journals for gents and Hot Air Balloon necklaces for lasses, the message being ‘go fourth and explore’.

Fabric Inspired Letterpress – Joselle & Tom

May 4th, 2011

This mood board was created with Joselle and Tom’s cool but classic design aesthetic in mind. Elegantly casual and clever, inspiration was drawn from the couple’s sense of style, appreciation for ‘Old School Glamour’ as well as the colourful love affair that has seen them cross the world.

Marrying a warm palette of ivory, bronze and biscuity hues, with classic typography and a variety of printing processes and stocks, the common thread behind the four concepts pitched is a playful tone that’s classically cool. Each solution has a ‘fashion’ feel, is tactile or unfolding, pays homage to an icon (Grace Kelly) as well as Joselle’s carefully chosen fabrics.

And one last thought… An A4 unfolding Telegram Order of Service… On theme, within budget and so unexpected!

Retro Country Wandin Valley – Kristy & Hamish

April 6th, 2011

This mood board was created with Kristy and Hamish’s Wandin Valley countryside wedding setting in mind. Combining Retro typefaces, traditionally printed in the couple’s festive palette on recycled stocks, the result is ‘Country Fair’ in the Australian Bush with a little ‘Rock and Roll’ thrown in for good measure.

A shared passion for music influenced one printing method suggested, a screen printed solution in keeping with gig posters.

Whether it be stacked Retro Typographic Card Components, an Illustrated Poster or a Letterpressed Wedding Invitation Set with Screen Printed Overlay, the solution is classic Retro with a slightly playful, unexpected sway. Each invitation concept is as bright in personality as the couple and as casually elegant as their day intends to be.
